PhD Researcher Success – International James Joyce Symposium

Congratulations to one of our doctoral researchers, Adam James Cuthbert (PhD English), who has been awarded a prestigious scholarship to attend the 26th International James Joyce Symposium, which will be held at the University of Antwerp in June 2018. His paper ‘On the Stream of Consciousness and ‘Camera- Eye’ in the Works of James Joyce and Thomas Wolfe’ will explore Joyce’s creative impact on the late Modernist writer Thomas Wolfe, specifically addressing similarities in their cinematic representations of the ‘stream of consciousness’ that demonstrate practice of the ‘camera-eye’ technique.

Mr Cuthbert is currently working on his thesis, ‘James Joyce: 19th Century Intermediality and the Spectacle of Memory’, under the supervision of Dr Keith Williams and Dr Daniel Cook.
